Day 1 Prayer and Fasting: Our devotion for Christ will grow

“For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of His will through all wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way; bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God.” Colossians 1:9-10

The start of the new year is often filled with various sayings about starting fresh and new, finding yourself and pursuing new resolutions. But as Christ followers we know that His mercies are new every morning. (Lamentations 3:23) We don’t have to wait for the clock to strike midnight for new beginnings. Each day, despite the year, is a moment for us to hold fast to the promises of scripture and allow our affections to grow for Him.

However, God in His infinite wisdom has given us an annual mile marker; to reflect, respond, and reposition our priorities. Some of us are planning trips, work-out routines, pledging allegiance to healthier living, remodels, dreaming of that promotion, and completely forgetting to fold the Lord into our plans. The wisest thing we can do this year is reflect on the person of Jesus through scripture and prayer, respond by surrendering every area of our life (even our schedules) and reposition our desires to be His desires for our life.

As Christ followers, we have been crucified with Christ, we no longer live, but Christ lives in us. (Galatians 2:20) This life is to be lived worthy and pleasing to Him.

This year pray our devotion for Christ will grow.

Respond:

  • How are you planning to intentionally spend time in the Word?

  • Is your desire for things of this world or the Words in His Word?

  • Have you asked the Lord to show you what he desires for your life this year?
