Welcome to the family!
By saying “yes” to Jesus Christ, you received salvation and are now a part of the family of God. We are excited for you! There will be more questions, and that’s totally normal! Here are some of the common ones we get asked, along with scripture to help you to understand.
Remember, you are not alone in this. City Church is committed to partnering with you on this journey as you grow. We grow best when we are connected. There are several areas where you can begin to get involved. Check out a community group, or see if there's an opportunity to serve that interests you!
WHAT JUST HAPPENED?
Prior to Jesus saving us, we were spiritually dead and separated from God. Salvation is God’s plan for for us to be reconciled back to him and rescued from our sin. He did this by sending his son Jesus to earth to die on a cross as the sacrifice to pay for the sins of all of humanity, as he himself was sinless.
Just as Jesus was raised to life, we were made alive and brought into a right relationship with God through his sacrifice. Salvation is not just eternal life, but the power to live an abundant life right now. Jesus is salvation, and salvation is our way to new life!
Scripture Reading: 1 John 5:12-13
HOW ARE WE SAVED?
Jesus saves us when we repent and trust in Jesus' forgiveness for our sins. Salvation is God's gift to us. It cannot be earned by anything we do.
Scripture Reading: Ephesians 2:8-9
WHO CAN BE SAVED?
Salvation is for all people. No one’s sin is greater than God’s grace. Jesus desire is for everyone to be saved.
Scripture Reading: 2 Peter 3:9; John 3:16
WHEN IS A PERSON SAVED?
God loved us so much that He sent His one and only son into the world so that when we believe, we are given eternal life. We are saved when we believe and receive the truth of the Gospel, and choose to begin a personal relationship with Jesus.
Scripture Reading: Romans 10:8-13
HOW DO I KNOW I'M SAVED?
The evidence of our salvation is what’s happening in us now. Jesus gives the Holy Spirit to every believer, which gives us a desire to live for God and the ability to hear, recognize, and respond to God’s voice.
To love God, to want to trust and follow Him, to enjoy His presence, to hear God’s voice in Scripture, and to feel conviction of sin and the need for repentance are all common experiences of those who are saved
Scripture Reading: John 10:3-5
CAN I EVER LOSE MY SALVATION?
Good news - you didn’t earn your salvation, so you can’t lose it! If you have put your trust in Jesus and the Holy Spirit has changed your heart, God promises that nothing and no one can separate you from Him.
Scripture Reading: John 10:27; Romans 8:38
